Why is it important to get involved?
Despite of all the achievements during the last centuries one comes to the conclusion that it is rather a small part of the population of the globe that actually benefits from the huge and good developments within economy, education, science, technology and social welfare. It might rather look like the differences between people in the world are getting bigger and the gap between the illiterate farmer in India and the manager at e.g. IBM in Germany is widening. Problems that we in some parts of the world have solved decades ago still exist without any outlook for solutions just “around the corner”.
All our technological achievements, with satellites and modern communications, make us feel that the world is getting “smaller” and that we, more than ever, are part of a global society. Many people feel that, with their own knowledge and experiences, they have a contribution to make, as need for developments are urgent here and now. You can also decide to get involved.
By participating in one of our programs at Den reisende Høgskole and in cooperation with The Federation of Humana People to People you can give your inputs in developing and humanizing the world society. You will discover that you are not the only one and you’ll meet lots of other people with the same ambition.
The task is to give your input in a concrete project, wherever it might be with knowledge, examples, inspiration, tools and methods in order for people to help themselves to make their own improvements. You can as a Development Instructor at Den reisende Høgskole directly and practically take part in development work in Southern Africa.
Den reisende Høgskole in Norway is a private school. The first programs began in 1978. Since then thousands of national and international teachers and students participated in our programs, traveling and working in many different countries around the globe. We have visited families, schools and workplaces and learnt about people’s lives. We have raised money for the projects, planted trees and world have solved decades ago still exists without any outlook for vegetables, taught children and adults, built schools and latrines, campaigned to prevent HIV/AIDS. Upon their return from overseas they have made articles and books, and given educational presentation to a wide range of audiences.
The first traveling folk high school started in Denmark in 1970. Since then more traveling folk high schools have started in Denmark, Norway, England, USA, China, India, South Africa and St.Vincent - 13 schools today on the concept of training Development Instructors to take part in development work at Humana People to People’s projects in Africa. |
